Opening of Portal for First Semester 2018/2019 Academic Session
The
University Management has been inundated with requests for reopening of
portal for the first semester 2018/2019 academic session. The
unnecessary flexibility in opening of portal at the whims and caprices
of students is not healthy for the system.
Nevertheless,
on compassionate grounds, Management had directed that the portal be
reopened to all students for registration of courses. However, such
students are expected to pay a penalty of N10,000.00 (Ten thousand Naira only) into the University account through the Remita platform.
The portal will be reopened fromThursday, September 12, 2019 and close on Friday, September 27, 2019.
Meanwhile, the portal which is still open for registration of courses for the second semester will close on Friday, September 13, 2019 at 12 midnight.
Students are enjoined to seize this opportunity and register their
second semester courses before the portal closes for second semester.
Failure to register second semester courses on or before Friday,
September 13, 2019 will attract additional N10,000.00 (Ten thousand
Naira) as penalty.

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE BIAFRAN AGITATION AN ARTICLE
By: Ephraim David
To a microscopic
few, Biafra is a political struggle, a struggle for political positions or opportunities.
To a vast majority, Biafra is a fight for freedom; freedom of movement, freedom
to good education, freedom for good living, freedom of association and most of
all a fight to be free from poverty. But to some, it is an organized fight by a
selfish but jobless tout who are immensely poor and wretchedly sick to the
extent that they teamed up to die for nothing by fighting against the
government of their own country.
In short, Biafra is
a short lived secessionist state that existed between 1967-70, It is located at
the old eastern region of Nigeria the present day south east and south-south
states. Biafra came up as a search for security and a search for freedom, which
are the greatest human needs. It was as a result of the counter-coup of July
1966, one of the bloodiest-coup in the history of man-kind that gave rise to
the search.
It all started on
29th of July 1966 when a federal military government came into being
as a result of a mutiny in which the primary action was directed at the
elimination of a particular ethnic group and the supremacy of another ethnic
group in Nigeria. This had the effect on, and destroyed the basic mutual trust
and confidence among the people of Nigeria and created the decentralization of
the Nigerian people into tribal groups. This action, more than any other event
that has occurred throughout the history of Nigeria, had the greatest effect on
the dismemberment of Nigeria till date. The July 1966 coup claimed the lives of
over 200 ibo officers in the army, followed by the massacre of over 30 thousand
ibos and other citizens of eastern origin living in the north. The killings
were never the worst part of the story, the most touching and most sorrowful
aspect was the reluctance of the federal military government to stop the
killings instead they knowingly, willingly and consciously aided the killings.
The people of
Biafra was/are therefore left with no choice than to fight against the
government that has treated its people to the most savage forms of brutality
and persists in denying these people its fundamental human rights while
claiming to represent other interests. To me, I think the people of Biafra
were/are prepared to remain part of the nation into which they have for so many
years invested their resources of manpower and material and with which they had
the closet social ties. Provided the people of Biafra could live within such
nation under a government that truly represents all sections of its people and
truly tries to pursue as are designed to promote the welfare of all Nigerians
irrespective of tribe or religion
It is regrettably lugubrious and sardonic that
after over 50 years of independence, Nigeria; the giant of Africa is still
economically and politically dependent. As one scholar may say; Nigeria is
African crippled giant, that is to say that Africa is underdeveloped because
its’ giant, its most populous country and most oil exporting country; Nigeria,
is underdeveloped. From the year of independence till date, Nigeria was/has
been rocked with numerous unforgettable and memorable events that did harm to
Nigeria economy, politics and society. Now the problem is not the problem
itself but our leaders who have failed us; - failed to attend to those
troubles.
A Country were
tribalism is endemic, such country will always give room for marginalization
and discrimination of the other groups or tribes. The Fulani herds-men have for
long massacred hundreds of people (mostly in the east) for no reason. And
nobody from the federal government down to the local government has done
anything to comb or put an end to it. Rather, the House of Representatives
debate on how to allocate lands to them in all geo-political zones across the
country. Is that normal? The arewa youths threatened the ibos living in the
north by giving a 3 months quite notice that would elapse on 1st of
October 2017. Nobody anywhere has been arrested for this threat. But the governments
of some northern states are giving the ibos assurance of safety: how such are
we that these assurances are not fake? But the east just pleaded for either
restructuring of the state or referendum and it was turned down immediately in
the House.(this request will also favour other parts of the country that are
marginalized). These are clear signs of tribalism! Ever since the civil war,
nobody has in any where heard about the Biafran agitation. Not until 2015, when
president Buhari took power from his predecessor; Goodluck. No one has ever
asked; why do they struggle now? Why not in GEJ’s regime? Why now? This is
because the government of Nigeria has failed its people and has for so long
paid no attention to mass poverty and mass literacy; neither attention has been
paid to the atrocities tribalism has unleashed nor the causes of some social
problems/crimes.
But let them
continue to play these usual i-don’t-care attitudes and continue to feel
unconcerned towards the Biafra agitation, so that the actualization of Biafra
shall come like a nightmare to them.
GOOD NIGHT!

We can never be part of Biafra - Kogi, Benue and Rivers leaders tell Nnamdi Kanu
Author: Nomso Obiajuru
- Spokesman of Igala Socio-Cultural group, Barry Moses Idakwo, says the inclusion of Kogi state has made nonsense of the ancient Igala nation
- Ex-minister Jerry Agada says Idoma land and Benue state has a whole should be left out of the purported Biafra territory
- Chief Horsfall in Rivers state says that anyone who wants to cede Port Harcourt, Rivers state, is looking for trouble
Some prominent leaders in Kogi, Benue and Rivers state have strongly rejected the plan by leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, to extend his proposed Biafra Republic to their states.
In Kogi, the Igala Socio-Cultural Group, has expressed extreme repugnance over their reported inclusion in Biafra.
Speaking on the issue, a spokesman of the group, Barry Moses Idakwo, noted that the inclusion has made nonsense of the ancient Igala nation, Daily Trust reports.
According to him, Nigeria is a democratic country where citizens should be allowed to live peacefully and secured as prescribed by laws, Daily Trust reports.
Idakwo said: “The agitators for Biafra have marginalisation as the main plan for their grievances. It is therefore unthinkable to annex the Igala kingdom without consulting us.”
In Benue state, a former minister of state for education, Professor Jerry Agada, said Idoma land should be left out of the purported Biafra territory.
He warned Nnamdi Kanu and other agitators of Biafra to stop the inclusion of Idoma people in particular and Benue state as a whole in their map.
Agada said that Idoma people had never been connected with Biafra, not even Orokam where he hails from, which shares border with Enugu state.
He said: “Idoma nation can never be part of Biafra. In as much as the Igbos’ have their fundamental human right to agitate, they should be reasonable so as not to coax people that do not have a link with their ideology or believe in their quest for power.”
Meanwhile, in Rivers state, a former director-general of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Chief Albert Korubo Horsfall, said Port Harcourt would never be part of Biafra.
“Gowon declared no victor, no vanquished verdict and that concept is still there. We are living happily with everybody. Port Harcourt is the capital of Rivers state. From time-to-time the issue of Port Harcourt has been an object of agitation. Port Harcourt was one of the issues the so-called Biafra demanded and this matter was discussed in Kampala. I don’t know why people are worried about Biafra and want to resurrect and create tension which is totally unnecessary,” he said.
According to him, “everybody has a right to agitate, but to agitate on somebody else’s territory is wrong.”
Horsfall added that if anybody wants to cede Port Harcourt, the person is looking for trouble.
NAIJ.com had earlier reported a retired police chief from Benue state, Abubakar Tsav, saying that Nnamdi Kanu’s plan to extend the Biafra agitation beyond the south-east shows that the IPOB leader must have mental disorder.
This comes even as a traditional ruler in Benue state, King Shuluwa, described Kanu as a man with little intelligence for trying to extend Biafra Republic to Benue, while the president of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Eric Omare, asks the IPOB leader to restrict his Biafra agitation to states of the south-east.
How man was allegedly brutalized for confronting Nigerian governor who delayed their flight
Author: Adams Odunayo
A Nigerian man on Instagram, @vanladi, has cried out over the way he was allegedly beaten up for speaking up after confronting a Nigerian governor.
According to him, his flight from Jalingo to Abuja was delayed for 6 hours because the goveror of the state was to join them on the trip. The airline was said to have told them they would be delayed for 30 minutes but it took six hour before they embarked on the journey. When the governor showed up, the young man allegedly walked to the governor and said: "Sir, I am a law abiding and tax paying citizen just like the other people on the plane whom you delayed from 1pm till now and we were not given the courtesy of an apology from the airline or from your office. This isn't fair to us sir and I just thought I express my grievance."
Instead of getting the due apologies, he was pounced upon by the governor's aides. Read what happened after below:"I booked an @overland flight from jalingo to Abuja for 1pm today and when we all got to the airport we were told there was gonna be a 30mins delay which we agreed to. We waited for 2 hours without any information from the airline or the airport authorities. "After 2 hours, I and my colleagues got so hungry that we had to look for food at the closest location to the airport which is the Nysc camp mammy market all because the airport is at a remote location far away from the town. "All passengers at the airport kept complaining when minutes became hours and there no sign of us taking off soon. Finally at 7pm we were called to board only for us to be delayed in the plane further, few mins later the Governor of the state walks into the plane without the courtesy to apologize for keeping us from 1pm to 7pm(6 good hours). "I then walk up to him and explain "sir I am a law abiding and tax paying citizen just like the other people on the plane whom u delayed from 1pm till now and we were not given the courtesy of an apology from the airline or from your office. This isn't fair to us sir and I just tot I express my griviance" (wetin I talk bad?). "Before I knew it his aides rushed into the plane and started raining abuses on me and slapping me...dragged me out of the plane that who gave me the right to talk to "their governor" that he has the right to keep all of us till tomao if he wants to. I just looked with shock....a flight that I paid for with my hard earned money fah! Well he later called them to order and told them he wanted to see me. He explained he didn't know he kept us and I replied that his office knew and it was their job to offer apology and refreshment to us. "Later I found out even the hostess and pilot had to go source for food when hunger started dealing with them. The painful part is that passangers in the airport that were complaining and shouting to the airline operatives while we waited for the flight kept mute and others joined the aides in berating me for talking to "their Governor". "I just wonder where this nation is headed when public servants elected by the people to serve us become mini gods over the same electorate. Was I wrong with my action?"
